The Messiah is Coming
Read: Isaiah 9:1-7
When Israel’s circumstances were bleak, Isaiah prophesied the coming Messiah who would redeem and restore. He described the Messiah with four titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
“For unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus, the awaited Messiah, embodies each of these roles. As the Wonderful Counselor, He guides us with divine wisdom. Mighty God, He was with God from the beginning (John 1:1-3). Through Jesus, we know the Everlasting Father. As Prince of Peace, Jesus reigns with a dominion that will never end.
For Israel, this prophecy brought comfort. Advent means the Messiah has come—and will come again. Whatever our circumstances, being in Christ gives us peace now and hope for His second coming, when we’ll know Him fully.
