The Longing for Home
Read: Hebrews 1:1-8, Galatians 4:1-7
There’s something universally moving about a soldier reuniting with family. These homecomings tug at our hearts because they resonate with a longing we all share—the longing for home. The holidays often amplify this desire, giving us a glimpse of the eternal home we await with God.
Jesus understands this longing. He spent 33 years separated from His Father on a mission to bring us back to God. When His work was complete, He “sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3). As God’s children, we too will one day come home to be with our Father forever.
Galatians 4:6 assures us of our adoption into God’s family. “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!’” While we wait for our true home, God’s Spirit brings comfort and closeness, reminding us that we are His.
TAKE A MOMENT TO THINK:
> What does “home” mean for a follower of Jesus?
> How does God comfort us when we miss loved ones
or places at Christmas?
> How does God’s presence fill our deepest longing for home?
