God Keeps His Promise
Read: Psalm 89:1-52
Psalm 89 captures Israel’s struggle when it seemed God’s promise to David was broken. Though God had sworn David’s rule would last forever (2 Samuel 7), Israel’s defeat and captivity in Babylon made it appear that God’s word had failed. But even when circumstances looked hopeless, God was at work, preparing the way for the true King.
“I have made a covenant with my chosen one… ‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations’” (Psalm 89:3-4). Sometimes, our experiences don’t seem to match God’s promises, and like the psalmist, we may cry, “How long, O Lord?” Yet, Christmas reminds us that God’s promises always come to pass.
Jesus now reigns eternally on David’s throne, His kingdom stretching beyond Israel to all nations. As we wait for God’s promises in our lives, remember His faithfulness to David. God’s fulfillment always exceeds expectations. He didn’t forget His people then, and He won’t forget us now.
TAKE A MOMENT TO THINK:
> How has God shown His faithfulness this year?
> Is there a promise you’re waiting for?
